The objectives of the IUSS are to promote all branches of soil science, and to support all soil scientists across the world in the pursuit of their activities. Kazuyuki INUBUSHI, Division 2 chair of IUSS, working also with Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition (JSSSPN, established in 1927), as Editor-in-Chief of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition (IUSS cooperating journal) as well as Chair of Kanto block of JSSSPN (see below)

What

Our Soiety (JSSSPN) launched several activities for International Year of Soils – 2015 already since December 2014.
As in regional level, biggest branch of JSSSPN, for Kanto block (with Tokyo Metropolitan, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Yamanashi, Nagano and Niigata Prefectures) had annual meeting and symposium on local and global issues related to soil science. Special lecture was delivered by President of JSSSPN, Prof Takashi Kosaki, as how we should act in the International Year of Soil. Other branches also celebrated the kick-off of IYS in December 2014.
As national level, Special Open Forum as Celebration of International Year of Soils 2015 was held in Ueno National Science Musium in Tokyo and Exhibition of soil monolith profiles from north to south.

Soil message

Prof Takashi KOSAKI, President of JSSSPN and IUSS Division 3 chair, predented Map of World Soil Resources and emphasized how world soil is diversed and soil scientists work hard to maintain and strengthen the multi-functions of soil. Organic farmer followed to tell his experiences how soil reacts with his production. Prof Katsuyuki MINAMI presented how soil science develped historically and now interacted with global environment and human health.
