Position: The Department of Agronomy invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track assistant professor and Extension specialist in soil science. This position will have primary responsibilities in Extension built on a strong applied research program.
Responsibilities: Establish an externally funded, nationally and internationally recognized Extension and research program that provides leadership and scholarship in the areas of pedology, geospatial technologies and analysis, including remote sensing, soil geography, and data analytics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a rigorous, inventive program that evaluates interconnections among soils, people, and the environment across agricultural lands and the urban-suburban interface, and that utilizes innovative approaches to deliver timely, evidence-based solutions for soils-related issues to diverse clientele. Possible areas of focus could include, but are not limited to, interactions of soils and hydrologic processes across agricultural landscapes; use of soils and landscape information to inform land use decisions and policies; analysis and delivery of soils information to optimize nutrient use, soil health, water quality, onsite wastewater disposal practices, or storm water management. It is expected that the individual will establish partnerships with appropriate county, state, federal organizations, and other stakeholders.
