Global Conference on Sandy Soils – May 31 – June 4, 2020

Deadline for Abstracts for the for the IUSS Global Conference on Sandy Soils  is 31st March, and abstracts can be submitted here: https://sandysoils.org/submitting-an-abstract/

The conference will focus on the following topics:

  – Sandy soils – distribution and formation

  – Soil water repellency crust and compaction

  – Runoff erosion and groundwater management

  – Monitoring mapping and management of salinization

  – Nutrient management

  – Carbon sequestration and soil health

  – Management and remediation of contaminants

  – Soil water conservation and biodiversity

  – Soil security on sandy soils

The conference will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on May 31 – June 4, 2020 and will focus on all aspects of sandy soils including its properties, distribution, and management. There will be oral and poster sessions, a one-day field trip to the Central Sands Plain of Wisconsin, and ample sessions for discussion. Registration fee is $400 (including the book of abstracts, morning coffee, lunches and afternoon drinks).

The one-day field trip costs $75. We will travel to a research station and farms in the Central Sands Plains of Wisconsin, and visit the Devil’s Lake State Park in Baraboo. The conference dinner is $75 and will be held at the Memorial Union.

PR2 Profile Probe – accurate soil moisture profiles down to 40 cm and 100 cm

Analog and Digital (SDI-12) versions available ____________________________________________________________

  • Accurate moisture content – not just trends
  • Minimal soil disturbance
  • Low salinity and temperature sensitivity
  • Dual purpose – portable readings and installed monitoring

The PR2 Profile Probe enables you to monitor soil water profiles with ease and flexibility. Simply install an access tube into the soil, insert the PR2 Profile Probe and connect the meter to display an instantaneous reading, or connect the PR2 to a data logger and leave the system to record soil moisture changes over time.

The PR2 is built around patented sensing technology which provides unprecedented performance in all soil types, with minimal influence from either salinity or temperature. The PR2/4 model measures soil moisture at 4 depths down to 40 cm – the PR2/6 measures at 6 depths down to 100 cm.

Probes are available with either analog or SDI-12 outputs, enabling integration with a wide range of data loggers, sensors and equipment.
